I've been watching Wife Swap and Supernanny for the past few weeks now, and I've come to realize that families are either one of two things: they're either too strict or not strict enough. When I have my own kids (heck, let alone my own house), I want it to be more like my family than anything else. Yes, it's strict, but not too strict. The house (for the most part) stays clean, but at the same time, it's not overwhelming. We have fun, we spend time together. Strict, but not too strict. That's how I want my family to be. I want to teach my kids how to take care of themselves, to watch out for possible dangers, work for what they want, to have fun and be happy! If you're not strict enough with your kids, they won't learn anything. If you're too strict, they're gonna learn to despise you and be uptight with everything.
I just watched the latest episode of Wife Swap. This one family was a family of magicians and they allowed their kids to flag down cars and show them tricks. One word for you. DANGEROUS. You never, NEVER let your kid flag down a car, especially if they don't know who's in it, for any reason....unless they're lost or something, but still, that's a stretch. But then the other family was the exact opposite. Their kids couldn't go outside by themselves and they were like 10 and 13 or something. Crazy crazy...
Anyway, just a rant, lol.
